New Noise December & 2021 Roundup

New Noise: December Roundup

For those of us who hoped that 2021 would provide something of a new start from the horror that was 2020, the new year didn’t quite press the re-set button to a state of what could be glibly called “normality”. However, where 2021 did not let us down was the quality of music released by our local musicians. And as we reach the end of the year, the high standards established remain safely in place.

December sees three great releases. Firstly, we have Euan Blackman who releases his debut EP on the 11 December – Grateful For The Moments Spent Alone – which puts a musical full stop onto a very busy year.

We are lucky in Liverpool to be the home of a virtuoso musician and such an artist is guitarist and composer Neil Campbell (feature image). He releases The Great Escape on limited edition 12’ vinyl on the 17 December via Klee Music. Twelve instrumental tracks that let the imagination soar, this is a rare musical treat. This instrumental and compositional majesty is followed in very much the same vein with Thom Morecroft’s Adelaide Road – Lost Demos (2011). Yet again, his obvious musical talents are showcased with this collection of strip-back  performances of compositions that in true Morecroftian fashion deal with life’s everyday  challenges. Musical alchemy evoking spiritual richness.

So what a year! We saw impressive debuts from the likes of Christy Bellis and Country Club, the rise of Guise, and the obvious talent of Jade Thunder. Helen Maw keeps releasing musical pearls, Sleeping Soul’s debut Walking With Giants was an exciting musical calling card, and Loris and The Lion provided us with an enchanting glimpse of their other-worldly musical universe with Jorinde and Joringel.

Let us hope that 2022 builds on 2021 and keep sending us your musical submissions! Help us promote the vast richness of musicality in Merseyside!
