Helen Maw Releases Expressive New Single ‘Fool’

Adding to her ever-growing music catalogue, Helen Maw is back with a new single Fool. The Liverpool-based singer/songwriter’s work proves how long she has been writing music for in this high-quality record. Her main influences consist of Carole King, Amy MacDonald, The Carpenters, and Adele.

With a firm grasp of her emotions, Helen’s deep self-awareness can be easily felt in Fool. It is a song about keeping a tight grip on the failing hope that the person you love won’t shut you out. The song is a blanket of familiar pain that effortlessly connects with the audience. The pain that she felt is clearly reflected in the heartfelt piece, providing comfort for those that relate. The clarity and dynamics of the vocals add plenty of depth to the story that the lyrics tell.

Fool contrasts with some of Maw’s more upbeat previous works such as How I Feel and Wait. This time Helen returns to a more tonally simple song, which is an effective choice given the topic. It begins with deep, low-end piano chords that are played straight from the heart. Their isolation helps us understand the pain that Helen portrays in the track.

The silky backing vocals are added to the second verse, adding power to Helens already comforting vocals. As the 50’s styled guitar adds a pinch of extra romantic tone to the song, we eventually hear the piece in its full personality.

Fool perfectly builds up to this overtime, allowing its listeners to think about and relate to the emotions shown whilst building intensity throughout the song. The final chorus returns us to Helen’s stunning isolated vocals with the piano, forming a satisfying end to the track.

With such a broad yet strong set of emotions portrayed in Helen’s catalogue so far, we look forward to hearing what else she has to offer.
