Fiona Lennon Releases Anthemic New Track ‘Please Don’t Say My Name’

Liverpool-born singer-songwriter Fiona Lennon and her band – Jack Lennon (lead guitar, vocals), Jack McCabe (piano, vocals), Elliot Chinnock (bass) and Sean Burns (drums) – are killing it in the Liverpool music scene. Returning with their first new music of 2024, their brand-new single Please Don’t Say My Name was released on 22 March.

The track opens with a wistful acoustic guitar section, whilst a steadily upbeat drum rhythm guides us into the first verse. Fiona’s emotive vocals introduce us to a narrator troubled by feelings of being torn after a tough relationship: “How do I turn it all around?” / “I hate the way how things turned out”.

The anthemic chorus is one you can already imagine a crowd hollering out: “I just can’t face it love, when you say my name” / “I don’t wanna see the mess we’ve made”. The bridge dials up the intensity, the thrashing double-time drums bringing a sense of urgency and denseness to the production, before a final chorus adds reverb-drenched backing harmonies that close the track with a sweeping choral outro.

Fiona’s irresistibly catchy melodies are supported by timeless, solid production and strong performances from all band members, Please Don’t Say My Name making a dazzling addition to their repertoire.

Following a busy 2023 and the release of BBC Introducing and Radio X praised single Dreaming, as well as supporting the likes of Jamie Webster and Brooke Combe, Fiona Lennon and the band recently performed their first, sold-out headline show at the Kazimier Stockroom this past March. With a number of upcoming live shows lined up – including supporting Rianne Downey at Gorilla Manchester on 26 April, as well as Soundcity in May 2024 – this year is looking to be an exciting one for this talented lot. We’ll be tuned in to see what is coming next from Fiona Lennon and the band!
