Beija Flo Bewitches With Latest Release ‘Waiting For The Sun’

Waiting For The Sun is the latest single from Essex-born, Liverpool-based artist, Beija Flo. It is the second in a series of three tracks recorded at Yellowbird Studio, a recording studio that opened last year in Neston, Wirral, by local band SPQR.

A multi-talented creative, Beija creates her own artwork for each of her releases, which is available as a limited edition signed art print. There is a clear correlation between Beija’s musical sound and visual art style which is quite distinctly hers.

Since its release in mid-February, Waiting For The Sun has already garnered over a thousand Spotify streams and has had its first spin on BBC Introducing Merseyside with Dave Monks. It seems to be following in the footsteps of previous single, Heads or Tails, which was played on BBC 6Music.

Beija Flo has truly developed a sound that is completely her own. Waiting For The Sun opens with simple, haunting piano chords and delicate but often jarring strings. As the song progresses it is taken over by a full band and Beija’s vocals are strong, raw and heartbreaking. As a poet, she is very much a storyteller, and this is evident through her honest and emotional lyrics that tell the story of her own struggles in life.

Speaking of her new release, she says “I suppose I find talking about Waiting For The Sun so difficult because it’s a medal. It’s a big medal I wear across my chest, day in, day out. It was born in the middle of a war, and is now a growing series of very precious battle scars. It’s hope.”

Beija spent the last few months of 2021 touring the UK with American new wave trio, Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum. She supported them in venues across England where she has now made a name for herself. 2022 is already off to a good start for Beija Flo on the live scene, with a host of gigs lined up including a festival slot at Deer Shed Festival in July.

To support her career as an artist, Beija recently set up a fanclub on Bandcamp, where members can access exclusive artwork, merch and demos. You can check it out here: https://iambeijaflo.bandcamp.com/
