Aussie Rockers DMA’S Play Electric Set at Mountford Hall

Australian band DMA’S returned to the city for a blistering sold out show at Mountford Hall. Despite stormy weather outside, the band put on an electric set, playing tracks from their various albums. The show was part of a tour supporting their latest album How Many Dreams?, released back in March. Supported by local band STONE and fellow Aussie Mia Wray, it was guaranteed to be a great night.

Mia Wray took to the stage first performing a number of her songs to warm up the crowd. As more people entered the venue the energy increased partly thanks to the upbeat music and Mia’s powerful voice.

Next up was local band STONE who turned the energy in the venue up to 11. This was a passionate performance to a hometown crowd that showed their clear support for the band. Frontman Fin Power, dedicated their final song to the late vocalist of The Night Cafe, Sean Martin, citing him as an idol and one of his biggest inspirations.

It was finally time for the main event. Mountford Hall was packed to the brim and eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Aussie rockers. The band wasted no time introducing themselves and got straight into their opening track. Fan favourite, The Glow was second on the setlist with the crowd singing back every word.

Earlier in the day DMA’S held a pop-up shop at the Everton store in Liverpool ONE. They sold an array of merch which could be seen plastered around Mountford Hall. This may have also been the catalyst for warring Everton/Liverpool chants in between songs.

The energy stayed high as guitarist Johnny Took announced that the band would be taking time off next year to write more music but promised they would return to the UK again. The band continued, introducing the next song as their earliest song recorded in frontman Tommy O’Dell’s apartment.

Towards the end of the set, the band played Lay Down, the twist however was the outro of the song. Taken from their song Hello Girlfriend lead guitarist Matt Mason repeated a line from the song, the band then came back in and kickstarted the song again. This went on for about five minutes and the crowd were on the edge of their metaphorical seats for every second of it.

Before playing their last song the band took the time to thank the fans and the UK as a whole for taking them under their wing and championing them in recent times. The set ended with Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend, the lead single from their most recent album.

Their tour continues across the UK, wrapping up in London later this month.
