The Watering Can’s Sell-Out Sunday Roast Returns to Liverpool Early Due to Popular Demand
One of Liverpool’s most popular Sunday roasts is returning a month earlier than planned following overwhelming demand from diners.
The Watering Can, the award-winning restaurant situated in the heart of Greenbank Park, will serve the first roast of its 2026 season on Sunday 13 September.
Its Sunday menu traditionally returns in October, but enquiries began arriving while Liverpool was still experiencing its summer heatwave. The response prompted the restaurant to bring its autumn roast season forward by four weeks.
The Watering Can has developed a loyal following for its Sunday lunches, with diners travelling from across the region and services regularly becoming fully booked.
Over the years, the restaurant has created what it describes as a “Sunday Roast Society”, as familiar faces, families and groups of friends return throughout the season and make lunch at The Watering Can part of their weekend ritual.
The figures from last year’s record-breaking season offer some indication of the roast’s popularity. More than 2,500 Sunday dinners were served, including over 1,500 chicken supremes and 320kg of beef.
The kitchen also prepared 500kg of roast potatoes, 240kg of honey-roasted carrots and more than 375 litres of homemade gravy.
For 2026, diners can choose between two courses for £28 or three courses for £36.
“The Main Event” offers a choice of salt-aged Hereford beef rump, chicken supreme, roasted lamb rump or a wild mushroom and hazelnut roast. Each is served with all the traditional trimmings, while The Watering Can’s popular truffle cauliflower cheese is also returning to the menu.
The restaurant has long described its Sunday dinner as “As Good As Ya Ma’s”. This season, it is promising diners that it is “Still As Good As Ya Ma’s”.
Owner Keith Perryman said: “The response we’ve had before we’ve even brought the roast back has been incredible. Usually, we’d wait until October, but it became obvious that our customers didn’t want to wait that long.
“Sunday lunch is something we genuinely love doing. A huge amount of care goes into every service, and we want people to sit down, relax and enjoy everything a proper Sunday should be about – great food and time around the table with family and friends.
“We’ve always said it’s ‘As Good As Ya Ma’s’, and for 2026 we’re saying it’s ‘Still As Good As Ya Ma’s’. We’re ready to get started, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”
Set within 12 acres of Greenbank Park and overlooking its historic walled garden, the restaurant offers diners the chance to combine Sunday lunch with a walk around the park.
Giant Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes and plenty of homemade gravy will be waiting afterwards – without any washing up required.
Bookings are now open for Sunday 13 September and throughout the autumn season. With previous services frequently selling out, early booking is strongly recommended.
