Fancy a free cocktail at The Alchemist while helping The Whitechapel Centre canned food donations?

The Alchemist Liverpool has teamed up with The Whitechapel Centre to gift customers with a cocktail in exchange of one non-perishable food item on Thursday 29th August to raise awareness for rising food poverty

Inspired by Burning Man’s theme of gifting, The Alchemist has put a charitable spin on the idea of a mutually beneficial exchange to help raise awareness for a nationwide issue close to the businesses heart, food poverty.

Teaming up with The Whitechapel Centre, The Alchemist Liverpool is encouraging donations to local food banks by offering customers a cocktail in exchange for one non-perishable food item.

One cocktail, The Colour Changing One, (Grey Goose vodka, Briottet apple, soda, citrus and magic), will be given for every customer that donates a food item to The Alchemist, but larger donations will be accepted and encouraged. Once donated, the food items will then be taken to The Whitechapel Centre and made available to those in need. The Alchemist Liverpool will accept any tinned, dried and packaged foods throughout the day, as long as they are in date, and unopened.

This new campaign is particularly timely, as recent statistics are showing that food bank use is increasing year on year. The BBC1 reported the Trussell Trust has had a 19% annual increase of food supplies it has donated over the last year, showing food poverty is rising.

The Alchemist, who offer casual all-day dining and an expertly crafted drinks menu have long been passionate about helping to tackle food poverty, being a partner of Foodinate since May 2018. Across all of The Alchemist sites when customers order any item on the menu marked with a Foodinate fork icon, The Alchemist funds a meal for a person who needs it within the community. To date they have provided 33,000 meals for the initiative.

Hannah Plumb, Head of Restaurants at The Alchemist says “we love the work that The Whitechapel Centre do. It’s a truly fantastic charity tackling food poverty in Liverpool which is an issue we’re particularly passionate about at The Alchemist. This activity is a fun and engaging way to encourage customers to donate to their local food banks, who are in need of donations now more than ever.”
