West End And Broadway Hit The Kite Runner Returns To Liverpool 

Bringing Khaled Hosseini’s internationally bestselling novel to life, The Kite Runner direct from its acclaimed Broadway season is set to make a triumphant return to the Liverpool Playhouse from Tuesday 23 April to Saturday 27 April 2024. 

Originally produced by Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, The Kite Runner first captivated Liverpool audiences in 2013 and returned as part of a UK tour in 2018. 

It garnered rave reviews and deeply moved audiences with its outstanding and unforgettable performances. Following its local success, the play went on to have hit seasons in both the West End and on Broadway. 

Afghanistan is a country on the verge of war and best friends are about to be torn apart. It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul, the skies are full of colour and the streets are full of the excitement of a kite flying tournament, but no one can foresee the terrible incident that will shatter their lives forever. 

The Kite Runner tells a powerful and touching story about friendship and betrayal which spans cultures and continents. It’s about a man’s deep journey to face his past and seek redemption.

The cast of The Kite Runnerfeatures Stuart Vincent in the role of Amir; Amir’s best friend, Hassan, and later his son Sohrab, are portrayed by Yazdan Qafouri; Daphne Kouma plays Soraya, Amir’s wife and Aram MardourianisKamal. Several other actors are making a return appearance in this production, including Dean Rehman who brings to life the character of Baba, Amir’s father and Bhavin Bhatt who plays the antagonist Assef. 

The Kite Runner is adapted by Matthew Spangler (The Beekeeper of Aleppo, Liverpool Playhouse) and directed by Giles Croft (The Kite Runner 2013, Liverpool Playhouse).
