VideOdyssey Needs You: UK’s Last Video Shop Calls for Volunteers
Liverpool’s most unique arts venue, VideOdyssey – affectionately known as the ‘UK’s last video shop‘ – is calling out for volunteers to join a one-of-a-kind film archiving project.
Home to thousands of rare VHS tapes, vintage memorabilia, and retro arcade games, VideOdyssey offers visitors a nostalgic escape into the golden age of home entertainment. Now, the team is embarking on a mission to catalogue and preserve its massive collection for future generations — and they need your help.
“This is a chance to be part of something special,” said Andy Johnson, founder of VideOdyssey. “We’re looking for anyone with a passion for film and a bit of spare time to join our mission.”

Volunteers will help digitise, sort, and document forgotten cinematic gems — many of which are no longer available anywhere else. Tasks include photographing and cataloguing tapes, all while connecting with like-minded film fans in the heart of Toxteth.
No previous experience is required, but an interest in film history, media preservation, or archiving is a bonus. Volunteers are asked to commit just a few hours a week, and in return, they’ll receive a free VideOdyssey membership and complimentary tickets to special screenings and events.
More than a volunteer role, it’s an opportunity to help preserve Liverpool’s cultural heritage — one tape at a time.
Deadline to apply: 5 June 2025.
