Top London Cocktail Bar Stages ‘Takeover’ Night At Liverpool’s Abditory

One of the UK’s top cocktail bars is staging a ‘takeover’ in one of Liverpool’s coolest venues, Abditory.

The iconic Homeboy in London is coming to Abditory on Queen Avenue in the city centre, bringing the best of what they call modern Irish hospitality paired with the skill and knowledge that has seen them regularly turning heads since they first opened their doors in 2018.

Only this month Homeboy was placed at number 14 in the annual top 50 UK Cocktail Bars and to add to 2020’s accolade of appearing in the Top 10 list of Best International Cocktails Bars Europe.

Abditory, itself relatively new to the city’s thriving nightlife scene, can be found downstairs on Liverpool’s ‘Diagon Alley’ – the jigger running between Castle and Dale streets. It’s quickly become one of the best venues around, bringing old school cool with an 80’s soundtrack, classic cocktails, German draft lager and toasties with a twist.

The Homeboy residency marks the first of Abditory’s X series of bar takeovers in 2022 with other top bars and leading mixologists from across the country coming to visit Liverpool each month.

Two of Homeboy’s top bartenders Dilynn Walker and Chris Gardner will join Abditory’s head bartender, Matthew Ball to create four signature Roe & Co whiskey based cocktails to a playlist of R&B and Hip-Hop classics:

  • The Boilermaker: Guinness and Roe & Co
  • Whiskey Smash: Roe & Co, orange bitters, Noily Prat, homemade mint & spinach syrup
  • Pal: Roe & Co, peach liqueur, green Chartreuse, Martini Rosso, orange bitters
  • Are Ye Well?: Roe & Co, pear liqueur, lime juice, saline, sugar

Matthew, who is a member of William Grant & Sons prestigious 1887 Collective which mentors the UK’s best up and coming bartenders in the UK, said: “Homeboy have become rightly known for the craic, their warming mixture of quality service and friendliness and the perfect atmosphere. Their standards never ever slip no matter how busy they are.

“It’s our first takeover night and to have Homeboy on board is unbelievable. It’s going to be a great night welcoming two of our friends to takeover Abditory and show off their skills and create their vibe with amazing cocktails and music. It’s almost unmissable.”

Dilynn said: “We jumped at the chance to come and do a takeover at Abditory and we are so excited to come and create Homeboy in Liverpool, because quite simply it’s Liverpool.”

Chris added: “Our cocktails pay homage to some of the modern classic cocktails of our time but with an Irish twist and our event evenings have become hugely popular in London not least because of our modern approach to world famous Irish hospitality.”

The Homeboy takeover event at Abditory, Queen Avenue takes place on Wednesday 16 February, from 7pm.
