A Sanctuary In The City: Hope Street Hotel & Spa Review
In a world that makes so many demands from us every day, making time for self care can seem like a radical idea. But it is time to put this at the top of your agenda and make Hope Street Hotel & Spa, your own personal sanctuary.
When I first stepped into the hotel’s spa, the first thing that resonated with me was the diversity. People of all ages, couples, solo visitors, everyone was there to unwind.
As a woman from the African diaspora, it warmed my heart to see other black women in that serene space. That rarely happens in spa settings, and it made a world of difference. It felt empowering to be in a space where we were present and it felt like the art of relaxation belonged to us too.
My husband and I had indulged in one of the incredible spa and stay offers, eager to experience their oasis of calm.
In the spa we plumped for a divine facial treatment, which turned out to be the ultimate self-care treat. For 45 minutes, I was enveloped in pure, mind-melting bliss. The skilled spa staff welcomed us into a tranquil, private area, where a soothing aromatherapy facial awaited.
As I closed my eyes, I could feel the tension and stress of daily life melting away, replaced by the gentle healing of their hands. It felt fantastic to share this moment with my partner, allowing us to reconnect amidst the hectic nature of modern life.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff instantly made us feel at home, sparking fond memories of our wedding reception at the hotel eight years ago. Exquisite Temple Spa products left my skin soft and hydrated, but it was the warmth of being among my people that truly restored me.
Between our treatments, we explored the spa’s unique offerings—an environment like no other in the city. The fantastic team behind this gem took the initiative during 2021 to create a remarkable thermal journey experience. I could spend hours in the Himalayan salt sauna or herbal sauna, soaking in what felt like a hug for my spirit.
And don’t even get me started on the outdoor courtyard vitality pool, where I could dip my body into the bubbling warmth while gazing up at the starry sky—a moment of pure bliss that felt almost magical.
After soaking up the hydrotherapy, I swam through to the indoor heated pool, relishing the chance to stretch out and revisit my favourite hot and wet rooms. All the while, the attentive staff were nearby, guiding us through this rejuvenating experience. I could even order refreshments from the spa restaurant and bar while I relaxed.
It’s no surprise that this urban retreat has been recognised as **Best Spa in Northwest England** by The Times and Sunday Times. Although one might assume a facility like this would always be full, I found that if you time your visit just right and take advantage of their spa and stay offer, it can feel like you have this exquisite space all to yourself.

After losing track of time in the spa, we made our way to our suite—a stunning corner room with breathtaking views of the Liverpool skyline. The minimalist decor in white, accented with rich wood and leather finishes, felt so luxurious yet welcoming.
We even had a lovely view of the Metropolitan Cathedral, an extra special touch since that’s where we celebrated our wedding ceremony. I almost didn’t want to leave the couples’ bath, but it was a lovely bonus to simply slip into my bathrobe and take the lift down to the spa, feeling like royalty in my own city palace.
When morning came, we thoroughly enjoyed breakfast in the hotel’s signature 1931 restaurant. Whatever dietary preferences you may have, the talented chefs will ensure you are well looked after.
