Liverpool: Next Stop New York Sefton Park Palm House / City Centre 28 – 31 August

Everyone in Liverpool is in a band. Or knows someone in a band.

But much of our musical influence comes from a variety of unlikely sources – be it merchant seamen, American GI’s or the rich tapestry of family ties and connections in the city.

“Liverpool: Next Stop New York” is a weekend long celebration of Black American music – its arrival and impact in Liverpool and beyond – taking place at Sefton Park’s stunning Palm House during the August bank holiday.  From a free party with seminal DJs Greg Wilson and Les Spaine, to Q & As and interactive discussions, the busy weekend will document this incredible history. The activity is preceded by an accompanying exhibition in the city centre investigating the impact of this music on Liverpool and its people, with a range of contemporary artists and documentary photography.
