Midnight Curfew’s Latest Single ‘Ballad’ Will Have You Listening On Repeat At All Hours

Liverpool based four-piece Midnight Curfew released their brand new single Ballad in August. Despite the semi-sarcastic song title, the meaning of the song runs much deeper than that, lamenting the rollercoaster of emotions that is falling out of love with someone.

The song starts out calm and gentle with an underlying tint of regret, until it soon builds into an ominous roar of guitars, drums, strings and lush vocals as the song builds to it’s emotional height with a final crescendo, describing the feeling of a sudden loss and the confusion that surrounds it. Despite this, in the song’s final moments, a state of calm is restored, acknowledging the regrets of the past and moving on alongside those regrets.

Those responsible for the perfect musical encapsulation of a finalised relationship are members Rhys Evan, Leonie Collins, Monty Havers & Joe Greenwood. Formed from a chance meeting between singer-songwriter and guitarist Rhys Evan and bass guitarist Leonie Collins, the pair jokingly agreed to start a band. After meeting metal drummer Joe Greenwood and songwriter/guitarist Monty Havers months later, Midnight Curfew was then formed.

Midnight Curfew pride themselves on their work ethic ahead of every release, writing and recording all of their songs together. The mentality of the group has so far paid off with Ballad being the second single to be released this year. Stay Late was released in spring, and with its catchy guitar riffs, lively vocals, and meaningful lyrics, the single is the perfect centrepiece for the Liverpool rock scene right now.

Midnight Curfew perfectly blends their catalogue of musical influences into a catchy pop-rock sound with an edge that ranges from country to metal in one single guitar riff or drum fill. This blend of genres can then be characterised by lively stage performances, ensuring no one in the audience goes home unimpressed.

Other singles that are available to stream/download alongside Ballad and Stay Late include Hung Up and I’m Falling Back In Love (With You).

On the 24 August the band performed at Camden Assembly alongside Laid Off, Halcyon and The Callbirds. With an already impressive collection of singles, for Midnight Curfew the sky’s the limit for what remains of 2024 and all of 2025. With more singles and the possibility of an EP/album and more live shows, Midnight Curfew are definitely one’s to watch in the coming months.
