Barnacle Launches New Summer Menu With Exclusive Dining Event Hosted by Harry and Paul Askew
Liverpool’s Barnacle Restaurant and Bar is set to unveil its brand-new summer menu with an exclusive launch event hosted by founders Harry Askew and acclaimed chef Paul Askew on Thursday 4 June.
The special ticketed evening will give guests the first opportunity to experience Barnacle’s new seasonal menu, curated by head chef David Alonso and inspired by Liverpool’s rich maritime heritage and global culinary influences.
Named in honour of Captain Barnacle Bill Askew – Paul’s father and Harry’s grandfather – the restaurant celebrates the city’s historic connections to cultures and flavours from around the world. The forthcoming summer menu continues that story through locally sourced ingredients and dishes influenced by Barnacle Bill’s travels across the globe aboard the Blue Star Line ships.
Guests attending the launch event can expect a five-course dining experience with paired wines throughout the evening, guided by Harry and Paul Askew.
The menu for the event includes:
- Homemade focaccia with Ibérico crema
- Gin cured sea trout with summer root salad, pickled apples, roasted garlic and lemon dressing
- Roasted kohlrabi with sweetcorn purée, charred corn, salsa criolla, leaf salad and parsley oil
- Herb crusted rack of lamb with sautéed parsley root, garden pea purée and minted lamb jus
- Trio of desserts featuring dark chocolate brownie, portokalopita and lime panna cotta
While the full summer menu is still under wraps, Barnacle has revealed that diners can expect dishes inspired by destinations including Norway and Argentina, alongside produce sourced from trusted local suppliers across the region and the Lake District.
Alongside the seasonal launch, Barnacle is also introducing a new prix-fixe lunch menu, available daily from midday until 4.30pm, featuring selected dishes from the main menu.
A fresh bar and snacks offering will also debut, including cured meat and cheese platters alongside smaller sharing plates designed for relaxed dining in the restaurant’s bar and snug areas. Barnacle’s popular 2-for-1 cocktails will continue too, available Wednesday to Friday from 4pm until 7pm.
Restaurant Director Harry Askew said: “As we look ahead to the new season, it’s with immense pride we now reveal our summer plans. Working locally with a range of amazing independent suppliers, our menus are informed by what grows around us, with sustainability and seasonality at the heart of all we do at Barnacle.
“We couldn’t be prouder to help tell Liverpool’s story as a globally iconic port city, one which over the centuries has had so many ingredients, cultures and flavours pass through or take root here.”
Barnacle has also confirmed that its popular Sunday roast offering will continue throughout the summer months, with a dedicated terrace launch event planned for later in June.
