Ways You Can Be More Environmentally Friendly

With climate change increasingly threatening the natural world and endangering lives and livelihoods, it has never been more important to try to live in an environmentally friendly way.

Fortunately, many of us are becoming more environmentally conscious in our everyday lives and there are changes we can all make which will amount to a big difference in the fight against climate change.

In this blog, we will take a look at just a few of the ways you can adapt to be more environmentally friendly and help reduce your impact on the planet.

Switch to an electric vehicle

One way we can live in an eco-friendlier way is by investing in an electrical vehicle (EV). By replacing your existing petrol or diesel car with an electric car, you can reduce your emissions, which in turn reduces greenhouse gases in the environment and helps to tackle climate change.

Not only is running an EV more environmentally friendly, but it can also reduce the overall costs of running a car. And with electrical vehicles becoming more popular, options for charging your new EV are increasing too with the number of electric vehicle charge points across the UK on the rise. You can even have professionals install an EV charger at your home.

Go veggie

Eating meat has a significant impact on the environment. Going vegetarian (or even vegan) can help reduce carbon emissions and lower your impact on the environment.

If you are not ready to go fully vegetarian, even adapting your usual meals to include more plant-based options throughout the week can help reduce your overall meat consumption and in turn, will help the planet by combating climate change.

Buy second hand

Another way you can be more environmentally friendly is to buy things second hand and only buy what you need. Fast fashion contributes to carbon dioxide and pollution. Saying no to fast fashion and reducing the amount of clothing we buy can help the environment and save us money too.

If you do need to replace items in your wardrobe, sourcing ethically made alternatives or buying second hand from charity shops or car boot sales is a great way to limit the impact of your fashion choices on the environment.

Say no to single-use plastics

Plastic has a massive impact on the ecosystem and can be incredibly damaging both to the environment and to other species. Single-use plastics, such as water bottles and food packaging are particularly harmful as these cannot typically be reused and cannot always be recycled after use.

Choosing recyclable or reusable plastics is an eco-friendlier option than single-use plastics. Alternatives to plastic are even better, such as glass or metal drinks containers, and paper straws, for example.

Packaging-free shops offer an eco-friendly alternative to supermarkets and allow you to take your own container to refill essential items such as dried goods. Even if you cannot completely eradicate single-use plastics from your life, reducing the amount you use daily is a great way to be more environmentally friendly.
