The Kowloons Set The Pace In Merseyside’s Indie Scene With New Single ‘Can We Go Faster?’
The Kowloons are quickly establishing themselves as the ones to watch in the emerging wave of indie artists, boasting a powerful songwriting prowess beyond their years. As the lead single from their upcoming debut EP, Can We Go Faster? now joins a collection of other vibrant and catchy anthems released by the group, such as Don’t Get Sad and Ignite.
As lead singles go, Can We Go Faster? Certainly sets the standard of the upcoming EP, featuring eloquent and heartfelt lyrics delivered by twin brothers Stephen and Anthony Ng, who have been refining their talents since childhood. The track also features radiant guitar tones from Mason Jones and bassist Bobby Griffiths and boomy Ringo-esque drums which are all a nod to their key musical influences.
Since 2021, they have been mastering their craft, gradually finding their signature sound; the poignant lyrics and blood harmonies on this lead single are now a staple of The Kowloon’s identity. The Southport-based band list their inspirations as The La’s. Cast, The Wombats, The Zutons, Circa Waves, and The Night Cafe. You can hear their influence on their music clearly, while maintaining their own style.
When describing the lead single. Lead singer Stephen said; “We wanted to capture the feeling of wanting something more, like being a kid on a roundabout wanting to be spun faster”.
The Kowloons – Can We Go Faster?
Earlier this year, Stephen supported Liverpool favourite Jamie Webster on his ‘Weekend In Paradise’ UK pub tour. With the band also set to perform in the same spaces as Bez from Happy Mondays and Tom Meighan from Kasabian, setting up a successful 2024 and a promising 2025 ahead.
