Gloria’s Liverpool has announced a new series of La Discothèque parties, bringing some of the biggest names in dance music to the city for special end-of-the-month events.
The series launches over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with Liverpool DJ Yousef performing a special disco set on Sunday 30 August. This will be followed by a rare back-to-back set from DJ Paulette and Eats Everything on Saturday 26 September.
Further La Discothèque dates and headline guests are expected to be announced later in the year.
Inspired by the electricity of Paradise Garage and the glamour of Studio 54, La Discothèque recreates the atmosphere of New York’s disco heyday for a modern dance floor. Its arrival at Gloria’s promises a combination of disco, house music and vibrant late-night escapism.
Located on Back Berry Street, Gloria’s features an intimate dance floor, booth seating, an enormous disco ball and a powerful Martin Audio sound system. The venue takes inspiration from the elegance and energy of New York’s most iconic clubs.
Gloria’s will continue to offer free entry on most weekends, with its house band and resident DJs taking over the venue. The new La Discothèque partnership will complement its regular programme with a series of ticketed events featuring special guests.
Jimmy Allen, Gloria’s resident DJ, said: “This is a very exciting time for all of us at Gloria’s as we showcase what the venue is all about. We’ve got one of the best sound systems around and it’s ready for these brilliant guests to join us with La Discothèque.
“We’re hugely proud to first welcome Yousef, who’s a genuine Liverpool legend. From his formative days as a Cream resident to running Circus and travelling the world to DJ at the best clubs and festivals, there’s no one else like him.”
Yousef will be digging into his record collection for a set focused specifically on disco rather than his usual house and techno sound.
Jimmy added: “He’s playing a disco set and will be digging deep through his collection, so I really can’t wait to hear what he plays. Yousef is a master technician on the decks, so this is not to be missed.”
The second party will bring together two hugely respected figures in UK dance music. Manchester DJ and Haçienda legend DJ Paulette will perform back-to-back with Eats Everything on Saturday 26 September.
“Booking one of these legendary artists is huge, so having both promises to be a truly special night in Gloria’s,” Jimmy said.
