The Brink Installs Artwork Inspired By Local Artist's Road To Recovery
The Brink has unveiled its revamped social space, following the installation of multiple recovery inspired artwork.
Created by local artist Leon Jakeman, who was commissioned by the popular Parr Street eatery and social hub, the wall art showcases a series of dynamic splatter creations.
Not only do the abstract paintings add more vibrancy to the already colourful venue, they also explore Leon’s mixed emotions during his road to recovery.
He said: “It gives me great delight to continue working alongside The Brink to curate the space. I hope that the artwork will receive a great response from the public, as it aims to complement the new booth installations and add further visual interest.”
In addition to the new wall art, up until October 28, visitors will also be able to view Leon’s Liverpool Biennial exhibition, L.I.F.T (Lost is Found Theory), which includes work produced by participants in The Brink Arts Programme.
Leon added: “Thanks to the Big Lottery Fund, which made the Arts Programme possible, it has been fantastic working with members of the community to create an exhibition that focuses around the beauty of found objects and personal journeys to recovery and positive life transformations.”
The Brink was set up to provide a safe and supportive place for people who want to enjoy an alcohol-free atmosphere. It was also the UK’s first dry bar and restaurant. The venue has triggered national interest and seen the arrival of Action on Addiction’s patron, the Duchess of Cambridge, on 14 February 2012.
Events Manager David Barnicle said: “As the founder of The Brink Arts Programme, Leon offers those in a reemission a great form of escapism through art and social interaction during the highly appraised outreach sessions.
“Recovery via a creative means is a fresh approach for those battling alcohol and drug additions, and we are delighted to have witnessed so many positive outcomes.”
