The Best Liverpool Goals of The Season So Far
It’s clear that Liverpool aren’t having a season to remember at the moment. The 2021-22 Premier League and Champions League runners-up have been lacklustre and wildly inconsistent so far. The loss of Sadio Mane has weakened the attack, while injuries to several key players keep derailing team form.
Nevertheless, there have been some golden moments. The Reds have hit their stride offensively against teams such as Rangers and Bournemouth, providing several wonderful goals in the process.
Harvey Elliott has hit the net with a few fantastic strikes, while Mohamed Salah has been as important as ever with a crucial goal over Manchester City. New signing Darwin Nuñez has also been getting in amongst it, notably in the Community Shield versus the 2021-2022 Premier League winners.
Stay with us for the top five Liverpool goals so far this season.
Darwin Nuñez vs. Manchester City (Community Shield)
Darwin Nuñez will be looking to make an impact for Uruguay at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and goals like this one have the bookies tipping him for success. Bettors were predicting Haaland to score in this game, but Liverpool’s new man from Benfica showed great bravery to get on the scoresheet instead. World Cup betting odds aren’t majorly favourable for Uruguay currently, although more punters are beginning to see Nuñez as a significant threat.
The imposing striker put his head on the line to get to the ball ahead of Ederson in the Manchester City area, scoring a last-minute goal to make the score 3-1 and a guaranteed win for Liverpool. It was Nuñez’s debut, and the Uruguayan was visibly delighted to mark it with a goal.
Mohamed Salah vs. Manchester City (Premier League)
The Egyptian King Mo Salah is one of the main reasons fans go on Anfield tours nowadays, and with goals like this, you can see why. Liverpool arguably came in as underdogs versus Manchester City, fresh off the back of a defeat to Mikel Arteta’s resurgent Arsenal.
Ultimately, it was a flash of brilliance from Salah and Allisson as the Reds scored a lightning-fast counterattack sending the Kop wild. The Egyptian used his strength to turn Cancelo before slotting away coolly in the City goal. The ball had only left Allison’s boot 10 seconds earlier, cementing it as a top Liverpool goal this season.
Darwin Nuñez vs. Rangers (Champions League)
Liverpool gave Rangers a humbling at the Ibrox in October with several beautiful goals from Darwin Nuñez and Harvey Elliot. The Uruguayan was beautifully assisted with a deft touch by Roberto Firmino, setting him up perfectly. All credit to Nuñez, though, as his side-footed finish into the bottom right of the net was as cool as you like.
As much as it was nice to see Liverpool’s new signing score in the Champions League, this goal is almost more impressive due to Firmino’s stylish unselfishness in front of goal. The Brazilian was on a hattrick and could have easily had a pop himself but struggled to resist the no-look assist to his fellow South American.
Harvey Elliot vs. Rangers (Champions League)
Harvey Elliot was recently praised by Jurgen Klopp for his incredibly consistent development, and it was lovely to see the young Englishman on the scoresheet against Rangers. The goal itself isn’t anything special, a quick reaction shot after a McGregor save, but it’s the sentimental aspect that fans love the most.
This was Harvey Elliot’s first Champions League goal, becoming one of the youngest scorers in the history of the competition at the tender age of 19. It was a heart-warming sight, seeing Salah and his young prodigy wait to see whether the goal would be allowed by VAR, and one we won’t forget anytime soon.
Luis Diaz vs. Napoli (Champions League)
On the face of it, this was a terrible game for Liverpool. Napoli ran out 4-1 winners, and the Reds were far below par for long periods of the game. Klopp’s team seemingly forgot to defend in the first half, conceding three goals and another just after halftime. It was difficult to watch, but fortunately, Liverpool’s determined Colombian winger wasn’t in the mood to give up that easily.
Picking up the ball just inside the Napoli half, Diaz went on a trademark marauding run deep into enemy territory before cutting in on his right foot and slotting an unstoppable shot past Alex Meret. It was a well-deserved consolation goal for the Colombian.
