The All; 'Daft Bint' Single Review
As with most of the music I get to review these days, I am always astounded by the quality on offer. The vocals had a dream-like quality at times, and I guess The All have a strong following in the modern psych movement. The changes in both tempo, guitar style and vocal range kept the listening experience fresh. I loved the slight air of menace and unease the track gave me at times, a feeling I have had when listening to many of the psych tracks I like, from ‘Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun’ onwards. The All probably won’t thank me for the comparison, but vocally there was the slightest hint of Siouxie Sioux, with none of the rough edges, softer, but with a slightly bitter touch. I mean that as a compliment, I really do, as she is one of few female vocalists I truly rate. The drums gave an almost military feel to some of the music and the softer ending was suitably melancholy. Experimental enough to make me want to catch them live, the track suggests the band, formed in 2013, could lead us down some interesting musical pathways in years to come.
