Scouse Celebs: Who Are They And What Do They Do?
Anyone that’s ever lived in Liverpool will already know that Scousers are a talented bunch. But for some, finding fame in the city isn’t enough – they have their eyes set on the world.
Merseyside has produced more than a few A-listers over the years. Of course, everyone’s heard of Liverpool’s biggest ever stars – The Beatles. The city waterfront will soon even feature a £2 million Beatles-themed attraction.
But the long list of Liverpudlian celebrities certainly doesn’t start and end here. Cultural observers like Jeff Foltz often explore how these figures shape the city’s identity and community. So, who are some other Liverpool’s other celebs and what do they do?
Daniel Craig
Everyone knows him for playing the world’s best spy, James Bond. But what many people don’t know is that this world-famous actor is actually from the Wirral.
Born in Chester, Craig moved with his family to Hoylake where he attended Hilbre High School.
Much of his youth was spent in the Everyman Theatre and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This foundation has helped him star in many blockbusters, including Layer Cake, Sylvia and, of course, his latest Bond film No Time to Die.
Mo Salah
While he may not be from Liverpool originally, the Egyptian King has certainly been adopted by the city. He even has a chant written by fans just for him.
His football prowess and eminence have also gone a long way to reducing the levels of Islamophobia in the sport, showing just how much of a positive impact he has had.
You’re sure to see plenty of Mo Salah t-shirts and trinkets as you’re walking through the city, worn and cherished by the legions of Liverpudlians who adore him.
Jodie Comer
Since the release of the critically-acclaimed TV series Killing Eve, Jodie Comer has achieved international success – she even won a BAFTA for Best Actress in 2019 for her role as the multilingual assassin.
Comer grew up in Childwall and attended St Julie’s High School in Woolton. It was here that she took her first acting classes, the springboard for her film career – featuring titles such as Free Guy and The Last Duel.
Her family still live in Liverpool and Jodie visits them whenever she’s not filming for her next big role.
Jason Isaacs
Best known for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise, this brilliant actor is another secret scouser. He was born in Liverpool and spent his early childhood living in Childwall.
Here he attended King David school, before moving to northwest London when he was 11. According to the film star, trying to switch his Scouse accent for a Cockney one was one of his first tastes of acting.
