Guests have to translate directions to find Secret Diners Club’s latest pop-up at the Nordic Church.
Unconventional pop-up restaurant Secret Diners Club returned with their first event of the year on Saturday when they took over Liverpool’s Nordic church for a night of unique fine dining.
Secret Diners Club continued its unorthodox approach to fine dining with diners not being informed of the location until the night before the dinner. Information and the exact location of the event was emailed to guests in Norwegian which they then had to translate to find out exactly where they would be dining.
The church’s main service room was transformed into an atmospheric restaurant for the evening with candles lighting the room, guests seated on the church’s 100-year-old pews and live acoustic music provided by talented singer Katy Alex. The Nordic Church is a fully functioning church, therefore Secret Diners Club had to transform the room back in time for a Sunday service the following day.
Like all of its events, the 6-course menu was kept under wraps throughout the evening with guests not knowing what they had eaten until the end of service when the full list of dishes was revealed. (See full menu below)
A subtle Scandinavian theme ran throughout the menu with potted shrimp on rye bread, a fish course of beer-marinated salmon and a main of honey and beer beef. Guests with a sweet tooth were also catered for with a pre dessert of fennel, honey and yogurt, and blackberry and liquorice.
Michael Harrison, Chef and Co-founder of Secret Diners Club, said: “We are delighted to have held our first event of the year at the Nordic Church, the space is stunning and it was great to pop-up our restaurant there for the evening.
We’ve taken over some really unusual spaces over the past couple of years including railway stations, lock-ups and warehouses, however the Nordic Church is definitely up there as one of the most unique!”
