Get Lost In Motel Sundown’s Dreamy New Single ‘Midnight Blue’
Straight off the back of performing at Black Deer Festival and one of their biggest achievements to date, Motel Sundown have timed the release of their latest single Midnight Blue perfectly. It is absolutely a folk dream. Coupled with a morning of listening to their previous releases, it feels like a great accumulation of what their style and sound is all about.
WIth melody lines and vocals reminiscent of Karen Carpenter, beautiful structure of songs straight out of a Crosby, Still & Nash record and a blend of musicianship like you’d find within Fleetwood Mac (but with less breakups) you’d be hard-pressed not to find yourself lost in this Liverpool-Americana trio’s latest single. Naomi, Karen & Bobby pull in a much tighter sound with subtle 3-part harmony and a full band set up that gradually stirs in smooth bass fills, a beautiful chorus and finishing off with an ELO-esque guitar outro. The song doesn’t have anything unnecessary, clocking in just over 2 and a half minutes of wonderful song-writing.
They’ve been performing and writing since 2018 and have since graced the stages of the British Country Music Festival, along with recently finishing up their Summer tour at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall. There will no doubt be plenty to look out for in the future though, as they now set their sights on writing and recording new material.
Midnight Blue recorded at the Motor Museum with Ben Harper is out today and available to stream on all major platforms now.
