Liverpool’s Own ‘Be Lovely Day’ Goes Global – Saturday 23rd January

Liverpool born Be Lovely Day has become a global annual event with people signing up to take part across the world. Just before the traditional Blue Monday, local ambassadors across the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will be putting smiles on faces in a traditionally miserable time of the year. Be Lovely Day is fun, inexpensive and easy to take part in.

Inspired by Banksy artwork ‘Flower Thrower’, the Liverpool event quickly caught the imagination of like-minded people around the world thanks to social media. Event creator Jodie Schofield says: “By ‘paying it forward’ or performing a random acts of kindness on Be Lovely Day, you encourage others to do something nice for others without expecting anything in return. Playing to the power of 3: If you can do something nice for three individuals, who then in turn do something nice for 3 different people, this creates a ripple of loveliness around the world… We can all make a difference. You can be the difference!”

January is difficult since we’re all emotionally, physically and financially spent. But the best things is life are free, including acts of kindness and general loveliness. A local singer-songwriter too, every year organiser Jodie (also known on stage as SheBeat) puts together a free family-friendly music show at The Brink, with DJ-ing sets and live music featuring local talent. And as an extra treat for Be Lovely Day this year, there will be a free download available of original SheBeat song Believe at soundcloud.com/shebeat. Music starts at 2pm featuring SheBeat, Kaya, Neildsy, Mick Roach and DJ Bernie Connor. Global Love Letters will also attend for a special letter writing session.

Brink event manager David Barnicle is a keen supporter of the event: “The world can seem quite bleak in January after all the festivities, but Be Lovely Day reminds us that simple acts of kindness can mean a lot to a friend or a neighbour.”

2016 is the fourth annual Be Lovely Day. Launched in January 2012, Be Lovely Day initially reached over 5000 people thanks to online support. Using the power of social media, the ‘being lovely’ event spread quickly around the world with lovely stories being shared including that of a lady in San Francisco knitting a coat for her neighbour’s cat.

To be clear, you don’t have to leave your house to be lovely this January 23rd, just make an effort to put a smile on someone’s face wherever you happen to be. Participants can organise local meet ups for sharing of lovely plans and stories, or simply share their adventure online through social media.

So whether it’s paying a compliment to a stranger in the street, making dinner for a loved one or knitting something special for a friend (or their cat!) – Be Lovely Day is a simple way of making a great start to 2016.
