Keyside’s New EP, ‘Michael (What’s Your Call)’, Is Heartfelt & Hook-Driven

The excellent EP Michael (What’s Your Call) by Liverpool’s four-piece Keyside, is out now! Alongside the EP release and unveiling the title track, they will be celebrating a string of recent successes, including three out of five sold out shows for their March tour.

The outstanding track Runaway provides listeners with an energetic and upbeat tempo paired perfectly with a snappy chorus. The clever metaphors and similes that run throughout the song tell a captivating story that many people may be able to connect to, (e.g. declining relationships and the urge to ‘runaway’).

Michael (What’s Your Call) is the EP’s title track, an extremely touching song that will be relatable amongst many listeners. The lyrics highlight the importance of reaching out to your loved ones who may be struggling behind closed doors. The song is formed from two perspectives with a great balance of deep emotion between the verses and chorus. The drumming and guitar riffs complement Dan Parker’s incredible vocals beautifully.

Rhianna, Please Don’t Cry has an addictive melody which amplifies the stunning vocals featured. The clever lyrics demonstrate how the band is able to create moving musical storylines whilst incorporating the difficult hardships of regular life. This track begins perfectly with an irresistible beat which stays consistent throughout most of the song.

High to High has a racing melody fuelled by steady beats from the band’s talented drummer, Oisin McAvoy. The lyrics provide clear evidence of a social conscience once again which is relevant in many of their other songs. This mesmerising track asks multiple rhetorical questions which propel the song through its lyrics.

Keyside are a band on clearly a band on the rise. Back in January the band stepped into the limelight at Liverpool’s The Cavern with Mantra of the Cosmos, the indie supergroup featuring British rock royalty Shaun Ryder, Bez, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey. As well as opening the show with Keyside, Dan stood in for Noel Gallagher on guest vocals. The release of their EP only cements their status as a band to pay close attention to.
