Iconic Liverpool Hotel Provides Setting For New Piece of Surreal Immersive Theatre
A unique site-specific immersive theatre show will take place at a famous Liverpool hotel this spring.
The Bedroom is an intimate and interactive show that will invite audiences to a surreal world of bizarre characters and ask people to explore their relationship with domestic spaces, objects, and their strange and questionable role in humanity.
The show is the brainchild of Izzie Major, a performance artist from the North West whose work explores the absurd, the ritualistic, the macabre, the feminine and the grotesque. She is passionate about bringing extraordinary artistic experiences to non-theatre spaces and community settings.
Izzie’s creative practice has its roots in improvisation, immersion, surrealism, automatic writing, play, chance and mystery. She has worked with a range of arts organisations including Hope Street Limited, Tate Liverpool, Unity Theatre, Liverpool Biennial, Bluecoat and most recently Sisters Hope in Denmark.
Izzie is keen to champion the incredible work and creative practises of female Surrealists, who she feels have been widely unrecognised in the Surrealist canon. She delivers creative writing workshops with women’s charity Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, supported by Arts Council England and The Eleanor Rathbone Fund, in collaboration with Metal Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of ongoing rehearsals, Izzie said: “The Bedroom is a place of dreams, nightmares, sex and death, a place to explore the polarities between pleasure and pain or discomfort. There will be humour too. Ultimately, it is an extremely visceral breeding ground for performance and the characters the audience will meet find great and grotesque pleasure in bringing to light feelings that might usually be explored in the dead of night!”
The immersive show will begin at the city’s famous Adelphi Hotel, with the iconic Edwardian building providing an intriguing setting for this brand new piece of theatre.
Selected performances will also feature BSL translators. Further information on dates and times for these shows will be confirmed soon.
The show is created and performed by Izzie and creative collaborators Craig Sinclair, Frankie Gold and Piotr Marchewka, featuring costume designs by Alex Herring and performances from emerging artists selected from Liverpool Hope University.
The Bedroom will run from 6 – 9 March 2024 and tickets are extremely limited. You can book online now via Eventbrite.
