‘Tis the season to feel full up…
If you’re anything like us here at Liverpool Noise, the last month’s habitual life routine has gone a little something like this: wake/cheese/wine/repeat. It’s been tremendous while it lasted, but even we’re feeling a little turkey-ed out… With the New Year beckoning, it’s often a time many of us will want to repent for our Christmas diet sins and cast aside the half eaten Quality Streets, toffee pennies and all. Sad times, we know.
It’s not all bad news though! We’re firm believers that the January detox doesn’t have to equate to doom. In fact, in a city awash with so many independents serving up menus full of soul nourishing delights – we’re willing to bet your mince pie withdrawals will soon feel like a distant glutenous memory. Amazingly, there’s never been a better time eat a little greener in our city! You’ll find yourself truly spoilt for choice when it comes to getting your healthy food fix in 2019. So to help you navigate your way towards the perfect salad or smoothie, we’ve rounded up our pick of the best Liverpool independents serving up healthy delights this year.
- LIV Organic & Natural Food Market (Bold Street)
The best place to kick start your healthy food journey in 2019 has to be here. LIV Organic is a hotbed of fresh produce – with every health food under the sun, under one big roof. You can even browse their eco-friendly home and beauty products while waiting for your avocado on sourdough to arrive. They serve up everything from veggie and vegan friendly brunches – to nourishing soups, sandwiches and organic freshly baked pizzas. Yes, that’s right – healthy pizza. Form an orderly queue…
- Baby E Coffee & Deli (Dale Street)
A new kid on the block in 2018, Baby E has been cooking up a storm since flinging open its doors last summer. We think it makes for the perfect post-workout spot, serving up healthy breakfasts and brunches that will refuel you as you relish them. Expect eggs as many ways imaginable, sensational frittatas and exciting twists on previously boring classics – such as pesto potatoes and homemade cannelloni baked beans!
- Our Kitchen (Bold Street)
Delicious, simple, nutritious. The perfect recipe, it seems, for the success of this Bold Street based healthy eatery. Inside this charming little restaurant you’ll find a surprisingly big offering when it comes to organic dishes. Their menu is jam packed with cleansing smoothies and juices, home made cakes and raw sweet treats, protein power plates – and even a brilliant selection of organic beers and wines, for those who don’t want to detox too much…
- White Wolf Kitchen (Cook Street)
The team at White Wolf Kitchen have long been blazing a trail when it comes to health foods in Liverpool. They’re passionate about keeping things local, which is always music to our ears. Sourcing incredible fresh produce from other Liverpool independents, they’ve been able to create a truly unique menu of plant based soups, shakes, cakes and much more. They’ve also done their research, with many dishes using ingredients carefully selected to boost overall health and well being. Oh, and did we mention you can pop into a post-meal yoga class there? This place truly is self care taken seriously.
- Love Thy Neighbour (Bold Street)
‘We believe in making you feel good’ is the mantra of the guys here at Love Thy Neighbour – and we’re here to confirm they certainly deliver. Rustling up healthy dishes that can take you from a Green Machine smoothie bowl at dusk, to a Spiced Falafel and Beetroot Burger at dawn – there’s an extensive menu of healthy, soul nourishing delights for any hour or appetite. A must visit, even if only for the dreamy interior.
- Fit Food Shack (Old Hall Street)
Utterly useless at ‘prepping like a boss’? Yep, we are too. But luckily the brilliant guys at Fit Food Shack have got you covered. They’re serving up nutritional meals to go, that make for perfect pre-workout scrans. This place is all about the protein, and will have you super charged to smash that post-work January gym session you’ve been dreading. Super tasty, nutritious and guilt free – we’d recommend one of the Fit Woks! Get yourself down there.
- Goodness Grill & Juice Bar (Vauxhall Road & Queens Drive, Childwall)
A little further afield than the other city centre spots, but these guys are worth seeking out. What the team at Goodness Grill don’t know about healthy eating, simply isn’t worth knowing. They offer nutritious meals and juices to on-the-go customers, who need their healthy food fix fast. Omelettes, pastas, salads, breakfasts, curries, steaks, burgers – you name it, they make it – and all totally delicious and guilt free. We highly recommend their meal prepping service too.
So there you have it, our favourite health haunts for 2019! Hopefully we’ll catch you at one of them soon, green smoothie in hand. After we’ve finished mourning those binned Quality Streets, obvs.
