Doodah Farm Oi Oi/ Soft Lad Single Review

Doo Dah Farm

Doodah Farm seem to have a restless liveliness about them. The vocals are edgy, and the overall feel is upbeat and catchy. The Mandolin played to perfection on both the tracks gives zest to the proceedings, lifting the music out of the sound produced by many of the more mainstream guitar bands. The characters portrayed in the songs are definitely present where I live, but the rather sad but accurate picture the tracks paint could apply anywhere in modern Britain. The lyrics are thoughtful and well written, but the subject matter, which deals with the rogues and chancers found in the lower echelons of society, never drag the mood too low, the pacey music offsetting the vocal content perfectly.

I particularly liked the slightly fairground feel the introduction to the track, Oi Oi, gave me, whereas the second track, Soft Lad, began with some soft Mandolin which momentarily transported me to a small Italian village somewhere, before the rest of the band joined in pulling me firmly back into the urgency of the rest of the track. If you asked me to classify this band, I really couldn’t, but they don’t need me to, really. I can only say, give it a listen. I was intrigued and entertained. See what you think.
