Cheery’s Debut Album BLISS Is Full of Melancholic Magnetism

Cheery has released their debut album BLISS with Spirit House Records. Described as ‘Gloomy Art Pop’, BLISS explores cinematic production with flawless vocals and sincere lyrics in a fresh burst of retrospective pop nostalgia.

After performing live across America over the last 20 years, Cheery creator, Katlyn Conroy uprooted across the Atlantic to Liverpool, undoubtedly having prepared herself for the all-consuming task of debuting a new project to fresh ears with a consistent run of self-edited music videos and show announcements.

Whilst in the States, Conroy performed alongside the likes of Florence and the Machine, Grizzly Bear and Sara Barielles, now they’re ready to carve their own name into Liverpool’s pop presence with this colourful 11 track album.

Concept of Love, released as the album’s lead single in 2021 showcases Conroy’s flawless lead vocals wrapped around dreamlike soundscapes teasing with Cheery’s pop-heavier influences such as the Pet Shop Boys and Kate Bush.

The album’s latest single Man! explores more melodic instrumentation but holds on to the melancholic magnetism in Conroy’s yearning vocals.

The reflective essence of the whole album gives listeners the chance to experience Conroy’s detachment at being far from home whilst connecting to her relatable lyrics on the endeavours of love.

True Lover echoes the ever changing emotions of such, as Conroy carefully brings down the dynamics of the track to reveal quirky, lustrous vocals reminiscent of Marina and The Diamonds, closing with an optimistically bright electric guitar riff.

This intrinsically bold new world of Cheery looks worth exploring for escapism and reflection and it’s certainly the burst of colour we’ve been missing.
