Band Feature; Veyu
Signed to Baltic Records and with a self-titled EP already under their belt, VEYU are surely set for a momentous year.
The Wirral quintet are already distinguished on the Liverpool indie circuit having featured as The Guardian’s band of the week last year and Peter Guy’s buzz band of the week just last month. With a self-described aesthetic of “cavernous, turbulent post rock music”, VEYU’s EP, headed up by track ‘Running’ certainly evokes ambience and atmosphere that engages the listener on an emotional level. Waves of poetic vocals and sombre, climatic melodies provide the ideal soundtrack for a blustery, perhaps drizzly day of reflection.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU0tuY_a4So]A Merseyside band through and through, Veyu came together after an ad was placed in Lark Lane’s Keith’s Wine Bar and the gents are also the creatives behind Dale Street’s Fallout Factory: their rehearsal location, gig venue and exhibition space. The bands penchant for visual art is palpable in the video for the final track off the EP ‘In The Forest’. Over six minuets of distorted multi layered shots of the band in trippy hues of blue accompany found sound clips, etherial chimes and strong drum beats with lead singer Chris Beesley’s brooding vocals weaved through. We’re keen to hear more of the rich, heavily textured sound of Veyu and this wish is set to be fulfilled with rumours of an album in the pipeline – keep an eye out!
