Strawberry Field To Open Commemorative Sir George And Lady Judy Martin Rose Garden

Strawberry Field will unveil a new commemorative rose garden later this month, celebrating the lives and legacies of legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin and his wife, Lady Judy Martin.

Opening on 27 June, the Sir George and Lady Judy Martin Rose Garden will become a permanent feature of the iconic Liverpool site, creating a space for reflection and remembrance inspired by two figures who played an important role in both music and charitable work.

Lady Judy Martin, who served as a patron of Strawberry Field, was actively involved in plans for the garden before her death in 2024. The new space will feature roses donated by Lady Judy herself and is believed to be the first public tribute of its kind dedicated to Sir George Martin.

Often described as the “Fifth Beatle”, Sir George Martin’s influence on popular music is difficult to overstate. As producer of The Beatles’ catalogue, he helped shape some of the most important recordings in modern music history, while also working with a wide range of artists across multiple decades.

The garden will be officially opened by the couple’s children, acclaimed producer and composer Giles Martin and Lucie Kitchener, who will take part in a ceremonial rose planting in honour of their parents.

Alongside the opening of the garden, visitors will also see the unveiling of a new Sir George Martin commemorative wall. The installation will feature an engraved biography in Portland Stone, thirty discs representing the producer’s UK number one singles, and a water feature incorporating the Martin family coat of arms.

Located in the heart of Woolton, Strawberry Field has become one of Liverpool’s most significant cultural and heritage destinations, attracting visitors from around the world through its connection to John Lennon and The Beatles, while continuing its charitable work supporting young people through The Salvation Army.

The unveiling of the Sir George and Lady Judy Martin Rose Garden adds another meaningful chapter to that story, celebrating two people whose contributions to music and community continue to resonate far beyond Liverpool.

The Sir George and Lady Judy Martin Rose Garden will be officially unveiled at Strawberry Field on Saturday 27 June.
