alright (okay) Release ‘Idle and Motivated’
Lockdown is still a hot topic that continues to haunt us from time to time and one we can all relate too. Liverpudlian band, alright (okay), have channelled this struggle into a creative work of art. Their fourth single of the year Idle and Motivated, opens up about the difficulties of dealing with wasted adolescence and how the days of our lives have passed us by.
The track is introduced by the sound of isolated guitar feedback, followed by crashing drums and a heavy, crunchy bass. The way the guitars are spaced with the topic of Alex Usher’s vocals gives the song an almost apocalyptic feel to it. That is until the hopeful chorus hits, feeling like an escape from the reality of life. The band’s guitarist, Will Booth, takes lead for vocals during the memorable, brighter feeling chorus, followed by a slamming post chorus section where the guitars put on a heavy show. To add icing on the cake, ‘Idle and Motivated’ closes with a Talking-Heads inspired jam, finishing strongly to lead into the second song on the double single pressed release.
Looking a bit deeper into the band, their previous single, Heavy Chair asserts its presence with an instantly appealing bassline supported by more guitar feedback and a simple drum beat that allows the bass to shine. As soon as Alex’s raspy vocals and the Strokes-esque lead guitar join the song, you hear the band’s talent for writing an energetic punky, garage rock track. The finale finishes with a loud blend of overdriven guitars and wild drums that have been let loose.
The single was entirely recorded and produced by Sam Davies at Salford’s Futureworks, and mastered by Andy Ferinhough. Their creative talent and hard work has earned them a passionate fan base that keeps growing, and it is evident why. alright (okay) have an impressive resume so far, supporting bands such as Alien Chicks, Jaws Touts and Truday and the Romance, whilst also being part of the Liverpool Sound City Festival line-up twice.
