Liverpool Girl Geeks Collaborate With SKY To Bring Tech Bootcamp
Liverpool Girl Geeks have begun to develop a known heritage in tackling the known technological and digital skills shortage in women already in work or soon to graduate university, but they’ve taken their challenge back to school quite literally! Passionate about the growth of the industry within this fantastic city they cannot wait to return this mission to the younger ages.
They are extremely pleased to announce a bootcamp for 12-14 year old girls focussing on developing an interest in and grass roots knowledge of the tech industry, as well as working to develop the confidence and self-awareness to pursue their dreams.
Currently at age 14 and 15 double the number of boys are studying ICT and computing subjects compared to girls, with statistics showing that mirrored at a similar age is a loss of confidence and aspirations in young girls. Liverpool Girl Geeks want to restore that to ensure that these little ladies pursue every opportunity available to them.
The bootcamp will be ran in conjunction with Sky, a brand synonymous with technological innovation to ensure media, including up to date news and video, reaches its customers immediately. Liverpool Girl Geeks are thrilled to announce this partnership, with co-founder Chelsea Slater saying:
“we are incredibly thrilled to be working with Sky on the Girl Geeks Bootcamp. They are globally recognised as a brand that promotes digital products that are integral to day to day life. We are so pleased they have come to Liverpool to partner with us on the bootcamp and we look forward to developing a wonderful partnership.”
Returning to their roots, the majority of the bootcamp will be hosted at The Studio, a state-of-the-art school focussing on creative media, gaming and digital technology. Students have the opportunity to attend at both Year 10 and Year 12 offering young people direct access to the industry. Based in the Baltic triangle they crucially placed within Liverpool’s Digital and Technological heartbeat with many of their industry partners placed on their doorstep.
Rebecca Jones, Liverpool Girl Geek co-founder adds:
“We know that the programme we have developed for these girls is exciting and innovative, exactly what this industry is all about. Not only will they gain an awareness of everything it has to offer them and their pathways to achieving great things within it but also a level of self-realisation and reflection that is so important at that age. We have seen research that says at a much younger primary school age girls are saying they want to be presidents and astronauts but around the age we are targeting, this changes to much more restrained ideas of success. We want these girls to be able to dream big for life.”
Delivery partners include Draw and Code, Fab Lab, Starship, Citrus Suite and Agent Academy.
