Georgia Stanway Shares Her Top Fitness Competition Tips Ahead of ATHX Liverpool
England and Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway has shared her top tips for taking on a hybrid fitness competition as ATHX prepares to arrive in Liverpool this October.
ATHX Liverpool takes over Exhibition Centre Liverpool on 3–4 October 2026, bringing the hybrid fitness competition back to the city for a weekend of strength, endurance and high-intensity challenges.
Ahead of the event, European champion and CELSIUS ambassador Georgia Stanway has offered some advice for those preparing to compete, including people stepping up to the start line for the first time.
While preparing for an ATHX event might look very different to getting ready for an international football match, Stanway says many of the fundamentals remain the same.
Georgia Stanway’s Five Tips For Taking On A Hybrid Fitness Competition
1. Don’t leave your training too late
Trying to cram weeks of preparation into the final few days isn’t going to help. Stanway recommends building up gradually, trusting the work you’ve already done and arriving at the event ready to put it into practice.
2. Train for the challenge, not just your strengths
It’s tempting to spend your training time doing the exercises you already enjoy or are good at, but competitions have a habit of exposing the areas you’ve neglected.
ATHX requires competitors to switch between different movements while already fatigued, so becoming familiar with what you’ll face before competition day can make a big difference.
3. Pace yourself
The atmosphere and adrenaline of competition can make it easy to go out too quickly. Stanway’s advice is to know your own pace rather than getting caught up with what everybody else is doing.
Stick to your plan and make sure you’ve got enough left in the tank to finish strongly.
4. Prepare mentally as well as physically
Physical preparation is only part of the challenge. When things get difficult, Stanway recommends staying in the moment, breaking the competition down into manageable sections and concentrating on whatever comes next.
5. Don’t experiment on competition day
New trainers, unfamiliar food or a sudden change of routine aren’t ideal when you’re about to put your body through a demanding fitness competition.
Instead, use your training to work out what suits you and keep things familiar when competition day arrives.
Stanway said: “You don’t have to be a professional athlete to set yourself a goal. That’s one of the things I love about events like ATHX – everyone taking part has their own reason for being there and their own version of success.
“While there are of course differences between preparing for professional football and taking on a fitness competition, a lot of the fundamentals are the same. Preparation, consistency, knowing what works for you, and being able to keep going when things get tough all make a difference.”
ATHX Liverpool Comes To Exhibition Centre Liverpool
Founded in the UK in 2023, ATHX combines different elements of strength and endurance into a competitive fitness format.
According to the organisers, competitor numbers have tripled over the past three years, with more than 40,000 participants expected across ATHX events in 2026.
CELSIUS is the Official Energy Drink Partner of the ATHX Games, with its partnership launching at ATHX Birmingham in August. The brand will bring its LIVE.FIT.GO. platform to events through branded experiences and product sampling.
Carlotta Cattelani, Head of Marketing – UK&I at CELSIUS, said: “Georgia knows what it means to prepare, compete, and perform under pressure at the highest level, but the principles behind that, from setting a goal to putting in the work, are relevant to anyone taking on any challenge.
“Our partnership with ATHX celebrates those everyday achievements and the community of people getting out there, giving it a go, and making each moment count.”
ATHX Liverpool takes place at Exhibition Centre Liverpool on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 2026. Further ATHX events are planned for London, Glasgow, Dublin, Birmingham and Liverpool in 2027.
