World-First ‘Game Show Olympics’ Venue Superlekka Is Coming to Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle
A brand-new competitive socialising venue combining retro game shows, giant games and Olympic-style competition is set to open in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle this autumn.
Superlekka Games is being billed as a world-first concept designed for the self-confessed “armchair Olympian”, turning a sprawling Baltic venue into a highly stylised retro sports stadium where groups can compete across a series of seriously unserious challenges.
Think giant beer pong, quiz-show podiums, Supermarket Sweep-style chaos and a live leaderboard tracking who will ultimately be crowned the Superlekka ‘Champ’.
And the good news for those of us whose sporting careers peaked at school sports day? Absolutely no athletic ability is required.
A ‘Game Show Olympics’ Where Anyone Can Win
Rather than focusing on one particular skill, Superlekka’s games will jump between completely different challenges, testing everything from hand-eye coordination to general knowledge.
The idea is to constantly level the playing field, so the person who completely fails at one game could find themselves dominating the next.
Behind the concept is Kip Piper, former creative director and co-founder of competitive crazy golf brand Golf Fang, who has spent more than a decade working in the UK’s competitive socialising industry.
Superlekka is backed by a £2 million investment and has been co-funded alongside PINS Social Club founders Daniel Gillbanks and David Scowcroft. The new Liverpool venue is also expected to create around 30 jobs.
“Superlekka is a true ‘games for the people’,” Piper said.
“The events are designed to bring people together, creating a fun competition where every player has a genuine chance to be crowned the ‘Champ’. I wanted to create a place to enjoy the energy that comes from playing games and I really can’t wait to get people through the doors to experience that.”
Giant Beer Pong, Quizzes and Supermarket Sweep-Style Challenges
Exactly what awaits players is still being revealed, but Superlekka has teased some of the events that will make up its Game Show Olympics.
Players could find themselves stepping up for giant beer pong one minute, answering questions behind a game-show podium the next, before taking on a frantic challenge inspired by the chaos of Supermarket Sweep.
“Whether stepping up for a round of giant beer pong, standing behind the podium of a quiz show, or tackling a frantic, ‘Supermarket Sweep’-style event, the sheer variety levels the playing field and guarantees everyone will be good at something,” Piper added.
The games will all feed into one overall competition thanks to technology developed specifically for the venue.
Following 12 months of research, development and prototyping, Superlekka has created its own digital system connecting the different challenges.
Players will be given RFID wristbands which can be tapped at each event, automatically registering scores and updating real-time leaderboards throughout the experience.
PINS co-founder Daniel Gillbanks said the technology and attention to detail helped make Superlekka different from existing competitive socialising venues.
“We are delighted to be backing such a creative, vibrant, and innovative concept,” he said. “The dedication to detail in creating a fully immersive stadium environment is what truly sets it apart.”
Gillbanks describes the concept as a new form of “sportstainment”, combining the atmosphere of sport with games and entertainment.
A Retro Stadium In The Baltic Triangle
It isn’t just the games getting the full treatment either. The Liverpool venue is being transformed into an immersive retro sports stadium, with Superlekka promising a deliberately over-the-top commitment to the theme.
At the heart of the venue will be a large central bar serving cocktails and beers, alongside a coffee offering created through a partnership with Liverpool favourites West Coast Coffee.
Interestingly, Superlekka isn’t positioning itself purely as another late-night drinking destination. The team says changing social habits – particularly the move away from traditional midweek drinking – have influenced the venue, with the central bar open to people whether they’re actually playing the games or not.
That means you could drop in for an iced coffee on a Tuesday date night just as easily as arrive with a big group for games and drinks at the weekend. Dedicated guest parking will also be available.
Superlekka Juniors Coming This Christmas
When Superlekka initially opens, the venue will be exclusively for over-18s, essentially creating a giant playground for adults in the Baltic Triangle.
But that won’t be the case for long. From Christmas, Superlekka Juniors will introduce dedicated family tickets and daytime sessions for players aged 13 and over.
The venue will then operate with a day-to-night format, welcoming families during selected daytime sessions before switching back to an adults-only destination in the evening.
With competitive socialising showing no signs of slowing down, Liverpool certainly isn’t short of places where you can throw, putt, bowl or battle your mates.
Superlekka, though, is attempting something a little different: taking the drama of an old-school game show, throwing it into a retro sports stadium and giving everyone the chance to become champion – even if they haven’t done anything remotely athletic in years.
Superlekka Games will open in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle this autumn, with further opening details and ticket information expected to be announced soon.
