Africa Oyé 2026: Lineup, Tickets and Everything You Need To Know

Liverpool’s summer festival season wouldn’t feel complete without the return of Africa Oyé Festival, and this year’s edition promises to be one of the most significant in the event’s long history.

Taking place across 20–21 June 2026 in Sefton Park, Africa Oyé returns after a fallow year in 2025, ushering in what organisers are calling “a new era” for the much-loved celebration of African and Caribbean music and culture.

For more than three decades, Oyé has become one of Liverpool’s defining cultural events, transforming Sefton Park into a vibrant celebration of global sounds, food, fashion, dance and community spirit.

This year’s return carries extra anticipation. After organisers made the difficult decision to pause the festival in 2025 due to rising infrastructure and operating costs, Oyé comes back as a ticketed event for the first time in its Sefton Park history. Festival organisers say the move is about ensuring the long-term future of the event while maintaining the quality, safety and atmosphere audiences have come to expect.

Africa Oyé 2026 Lineup

Musically, the 2026 lineup already looks stacked with internationally acclaimed artists and emerging talent from across Africa and the diaspora. Among the headline names announced so far are Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara, Nigerian Afrobeats star Patoranking and British reggae icon Janet Kay. Festivalgoers can also expect performances from acts including Fulu Miziki, Ghorwane, Nana Benz Du Togo, Kizaba and Kobo Town.

More Than Just a Music Festival

But Africa Oyé has always been about far more than the music. Across the weekend, festivalgoers can explore the ever-popular Oyé Village, featuring more than 90 stalls serving international street food, crafts, fashion and cultural goods from across Africa and beyond. There’ll also be workshops, dance activities and creative sessions in the Oyé Active Zone, alongside DJ sets, family entertainment and a newly announced Family Zone for 2026.

Part of what continues to make Africa Oyé special is the atmosphere. Few UK festivals feel as genuinely intergenerational and community-driven, with audiences spanning families, students, music lovers and visitors travelling from across the country. Online discussions ahead of this year’s return already show the excitement building among Liverpool music fans eager to see the festival back in Sefton Park.

And of course, the setting itself plays a huge role. The festival’s home in Sefton Park — one of Liverpool’s most beloved green spaces — provides the perfect backdrop for a weekend of sunshine, dancing and cultural celebration.

After a year away, Africa Oyé 2026 feels less like a comeback and more like a reaffirmation of why the festival matters so much to Liverpool’s cultural identity. At a time when independent festivals across the UK continue to face mounting financial pressures, Oyé’s return represents resilience, community support and the enduring power of live music and shared cultural experiences.
