Mikkeller Running Club Brings The Classic Mile Race To Liverpool

Mikkeller Running Club Liverpool is hosting a one mile road race this summer.

The event is scheduled for Thursday 20 August, and will form the twelfth fixture in the 2026 Merseyside Road Running Grand Prix.

The Liverpool Mile is a brand new event taking place within Brunswick Business Park, on the banks of the River Mersey and is expected to attract around 300 runners.

A chip-timed race, the marshalled course promises to be fast and flat, with roads traffic-free for the duration of the classic distance.

Andrew Carey, Chair of Mikkeller Running Club Liverpool, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be organising The Liverpool Mile as part of the Merseyside Grand Prix. Since affiliating with England Athletics, we’ve really embraced the local racing scene and been inspired by the passion, inclusivity and quality of events across the region. The distance is rarely raced on the road, so we’re delighted to bring it to Liverpool and establish it in the local race calendar.

“Giving back has always been central to what we do as a club, and we’re delighted that this race builds on the charity events we’ve arranged in support of our partner, Love, Jasmine.

“The enthusiasm from our runners to step up and host our own race has been brilliant to see, and we’re excited to welcome the wider running community for what we hope will be a fast, friendly and memorable mile.”

The Grand Prix, which launched in 2013 attracts clubs from across the region, with athletes earning both individual and club competition points based on finishing position.

Nigel Grant, Grand Prix Co-ordinator, said: “Merseyside County Athletics Association welcomes Mikkeller Running Club Liverpool to the family of clubs hosting local races which make up the Merseyside Road Running Grand Prix.”

Philip Madden, Site and Systems Manager at Brunswick Business Park, said: “We are delighted to support this community-led event at Brunswick Business Park. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the estate while supporting local clubs and charity partners, and we look forward to a successful and safe race.”

The Liverpool Mile offers a cash prize fund, with the top three male and female finishers also taking home trophies in recognition of their achievements.

Online entry opens on Monday 1 June through Nifty Entries, with further event information to be announced in the coming weeks.

Post-race festivities will take place at Black Lodge Brewery, the home of Mikkeller Running Club Liverpool, located on Kings Dock Street and just one mile from the finish line.
