Naomi Campbell’s ‘The Cottage’ Is A Hauntingly Beautiful Folk Ballad

Liverpool-based Irish singer-songwriter Naomi Campbell continues her steady rise with her latest single The Cottage.

Serving as the lead track from her upcoming debut EP, The Cottage showcases Campbell’s evolving sound, which has gradually expanded from her folk and Americana roots into something more expansive, drawing subtle influence from soul and R&B. The result is a track that feels both intimate and cinematic, anchored by her dynamic and evocative vocal performance.

Recorded at Whitewood Studio in Liverpool, the track draws inspiration from the timeless songwriting of Sandy Denny, while weaving in the atmospheric alternative tones of The Cranberries and even hints of Oasis-inspired production in its high-energy outro.

At the heart of the track is a sense of nostalgia. In the chorus, Campbell asks “Who lives in that house?” and “who’s there looking out, only yesterday we were the only two around.

Speaking of the track Naomi said: “There was an old derelict cottage near where I live which had so much character, I decided to write about it, rather than people for a change, it was next to a train station where people come and go so often, and it had a certain alluring nostalgic quality which I think Ellen McGovern captured really beautifully in her flute solo on the track also!”

There’s a warmth to the arrangement that allows Campbell’s voice to shine, while the understated instrumentation gives the lyrics space to resonate.

Since the release of her debut single Tuesday’s News in 2024 Campbell has continued to build momentum. Follow-up releases including Don’t You Mind and Naturally have seen her explore a broader sonic palette, gaining support from platforms such as BBC Introducing and Radio X, as well as praise from music press.

The Cottage feels like a natural next step in Campbell’s artistic journey, balancing introspective songwriting with a growing confidence in her sound. It’s a track that quietly lingers, demonstrating her ability to create music that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable.

With her debut EP set for release in 2026 and a run of live dates across the UK and Ireland on the horizon, The Cottage signals an artist continuing to refine her voice while staying rooted in honest storytelling.
