DAYDREAM: Music, film and performance feat. Natalie McCool & Silent Cities
Showcase Event in association with Rebel Soul.
Daydream, a collaborative project of music, film and performance pairing Silent Cities and Natalie McCool, is the brainchild of Liverpool-based artist & designer Laura Lomax.
“I remember first coming up with the idea last year, as I love both artists and felt they’d compliment one another’s styles really well. I was listening to Spotify when ‘Daydream in Blue’ by I Monster came on, and thought it would be an amazing track for them to do a duet with.”
The track was produced by Mario Leal, and released through new record label voltasix on 19th January 2015.
To accompany the song, Laura has directed and produced a mysterious film noir video in conjunction with IXIOD. The video was released on 13th February 2015.
“I’m heavily inspired by early, experimental cinema, such as the work of Georges Méliès, Luis Buñuel and Fritz Lang. I’ve also used very strong theatrical lighting, shadow and lens effects to reflect the haunting
atmosphere of the track, reminiscent of work by Henri-Georges Clouzot, all done in situ with objects like mirrors and prisms.”
The final piece of the project is the showcase event at Tilt, Duke Street on 28th February, in association with Rebel Soul. Silent Cities and Natalie McCool will each perform their own new material as well as their Daydream set, and will be joined by the haunting songstress LUИA. The venue will be filled by art installations inspired by Eadweard Muybridge, incorporating light manipulation and shadowplay.
