Anathema Cathedral Concert Tour Heads To Liverpool Anglican 7th March
In the distant past Anathema were the Doom metal darlings of Liverpool, so when I heard they were doing a tour playing a number of cathedrals, including Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, I knew I had to find out what the Cavanagh boys et al were doing now. Always incredibly musically accomplished, Anathema have moved in a softer, more melodic direction. In 2012 the band featured in a film documenting the band’s September 2012 one-off show at the ancient Roman theatre of Philippopolis with the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, following the release of their most highly acclaimed album ‘Weather Systems’, which was directed by the acclaimed film maker Lasse Hoile.
Seeing the more progressive direction the band are following, I can only feel that the up-coming acoustic cathedral concerts are going to be something very special, a rare chance to see a local, yet internationally renowned, band in a magical setting. The Liverpool Anglican Cathedral Concert takes place on March 7th, forming part of a 3 cathedral tour sandwiched between dates in South America and Europe. As the only other UK date Anathema have scheduled is in London, where they will be celebrating their entire career with the help of past band members, this concert is a rare chance to see the band in their home city.
