Global Scouse Day Becomes Global Scouse Month At Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery

Global Scouse Day is back this year, taking place on Friday 28 February.

And to celebrate, the team at Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery are taking things to a whole new level. Because from Friday 14 February to Friday 14 March, a selection of Scouse classics and inventive new dishes will be available as part of Global Scouse Month at Ma’s, as the Liverpool institution flies the flag for the city’s enduring love of Scouse.

Scouse is a dish emblematic of Liverpool’s history, born of hardship and creative endeavour. Harking back from the bustling port days, Scouse was originally a dish whose ingredients were a mix of cheap and filling. Originating from the word Lobscouse, this was a dish commonly eaten by sailors travelling across Northern Europe who frequented Liverpool. Over the decades, the name was ultimately shortened to the version known across the world today – Scouse. To this day, it remains a hearty stew generally consisting of meat, either lamb or beef, with potatoes, carrots and onions and served with pickled beetroot or cabbage and some crusty bread on the side.

Scouse is many things to many people, shaping the identity of the city and still served across Merseyside and at home, ever popular, with endless variations. The classic dish is an inventive and enduring staple which Ma Boyle’s have proudly served for years, and for Global Scouse Day they are offering are range of succulent Scouse dishes for a month.

And over at Ma’s two sister venues, Tempest on Tithebarn has for a 2 for 1 offer from Monday 24 Feb – Friday 28 Feb for their Scouse Burger. And down at the docks, Nova Scotia is also running a 2 for 1, this time for Classic Scouse and Blind Scouse dishes, also running from Monday 24 Feb – Friday 28 Feb.
