Delifonseca Dockside welcomes the return of its Burns Night celebrations

Delifonseca Dockside is bringing back its annual Burns Night menu in honour of Scottish poet Robert Burns.

On Tuesday, January 25, Liverpool’s award-winning eatery will be serving up a set menu of three suitably Scottish courses honouring the famous bard, which diners can enjoy at the Brunswick Quay restaurant or in the comfort of their own homes. Dishes include traditional delicacies from Haggis to whiskey dumplings and, of course, the famed deep-fried Mars Bar.

For those choosing to eat out, they will also be welcomed to the newly expanded restaurant with an Irn Bru Bramble cocktail on arrival.

Proprietor Candice Fonseca said: “January is such a flat month after the buzz of Christmas and New Year, so we have always celebrated Burns Night to add some spirit to a generally dull month. I have always had a soft spot for the Scottish culture, and in particular their food.

“The Scottish cuisine is the perfect response to the cold and dark winter months, whether it’s the fantastic use of their great fresh fish and seafood or the classic comfort and homeliness of the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties.”

With the Omicron variant continuing to cause unease among the hospitality industry, many businesses like Delifonseca have been adapting their practises to ensure that they are able to continue operating – despite possible further restrictions or decreased footfall. The dockside venue, which has been operating for more than 10 years, has been creating its Dine At Home kits since the start of the pandemic, offering customers its chef-prepared meals in the comfort of their own home.

Candice said: “Even though the restaurant has had to cut down on operating hours once again recently due to the latest variant having an impact on staffing and customer footfall, we were determined to make this event happen, but we wanted to give our customers the option of eating in or eating out.

“This time last year we were forced to close but people really enjoyed the Dine At Home offer. Understandably there are some customers that are nervous about going out at the moment but with our new restaurant extension, we can assure those who do visit us that they will be socially distanced in a fresh air-conditioned space.”

Delifonseca’s Burns Night menu in the restaurant is £35 a head and includes a three-course menu. The Dine At Home menu is available at £25 per head and is available for both delivery and collection on the 25th only.
