New Noise: January Liverpool Music Round Up

New Noise: January Edition of our Liverpool Music Round Up….

So although we have seen the back of 2020, the New Year – for now – hasn’t brought us much cheer. Perhaps the local releases will provide a glimmer of musical hope to what  2021 will bring us? Well, if the exquisitely titled Beaten John Lip have anything to do  with it, 2021 will turn into a kaleidoscope of psychedelic gorgeousness. Their latest release Love For Yesterday / Land In The Sun grant us access to two compositions of sublime beauty. Highly recommended.

Continuing with the theme of great band names, Police Car Collective drop ALLTHETIME, the follow-up to August’s I Guess It’s Over Now. Weighing in at a fraction  over the seven minute mark, it’s a really hypnotic sonic exploration into relationship dynamics. And you won’t be allowed to forget its title.

Alex Crittenden makes a welcome return with his new track Profound, which is a real  post – Christmas cracker. Infused with elements of ska and the blues, it’s the perfect  platform to show off this young mans considerable musical talents.

Crashing in from left field, and this really is a curve ball, the Canadian duo that is April Moon present us with the 21 minute stick puppet musical that is The Ballad Of Johnny West. Check it out – its great stuff!

Lastly, the Merseyside musical stalwart Mike Blue releases his latest twelve track offering Dark Daze. The usual musical Blue tropes are on show, great guitar and harmonica  work, that as usual manages to flesh out his compositional premises. It’s an hour well  spent, and it would be nice if the release of Dark Daze sees Mike Blue come in from the musical margins and gain some recognition he no doubt deserves.
