Royal Albert Dock’s Christmas Extravaganza Set To Get You In The Mood For The Festive Season
This Christmas, Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, is throwing a magical Christmas Extravaganza, taking place on Thursday 22nd November, from 4-‐9pm. With a whole array of wonderful offerings and events due to take place in the following weeks, this event will be the perfect taster of what to expect at Christmas on the Dock.
Complete with an amazing ice sculpture trail, delicious roasted chestnuts, the Salvation Army choir, a pop-up Christmas tree shop, and numerous special offerings from the outlets, Christmas Extravaganza will combine all of the senses of the season, at Liverpool’s stunning waterfront location.
As the harmonious choir sets the mood singing all your favourite carols, visitors can roam around the inner quay, exploring the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of Christmas, for a festive experience like no other. Located on Liverpool’s impressive World Heritage Site, the picturesque surroundings of the Dock make for an ideal Christmas setting, with sweeping views of the waterfront and Christmas lights around the quaysides of the Grade I listed site all adding to the majestic backdrop.
Four stunning ice sculptures will be positioned throughout the Dock, featuring an ice-skating penguin, angel wings, Rudolph and Santa Clause; making for the perfect selfie opportunity. The eclectic selection of shops, restaurants, and bars will be showcasing their unique Christmas offerings, with a number of special offers for guests to enjoy, encompassing food, drink, fashion and crafts.
Catering for visitors of all ages, there will be a number of attractions for children; from creating beautiful Christmas snow globes with a real life Snow Queen at NEST, to decorating tasty gingerbread to enjoy as a sweet treat at Mattel Play!, offering something for everyone at the Christmas Extravaganza.
Visitors can also attend an opening party at Tate Liverpool of three brand new exhibitions including the colourful paintings of French artist Fernand Leger in the first major UK exhibition in 30 years of the renowned French artist, which officially opens on 23 November.
In addition to the Christmas Extravaganza, a number of additional winter festivities are due to take place throughout the following weeks. The Santa Dash returns for its 15th year with over 1,500 Santa running through the Salt House quay on 2nd December, Merseyside Maritime Museum, International Slavery Museum and the Beatles Story provide a full cultural programme for all the family to enjoy, and there will be two Christmas-themed Makers Markets on December 9th and 16th, the perfect moment to pick up a gift or two.
Furthermore, no trip to the Dock this Christmas is complete without an Insta-moment next to Liverpool Mountain – a new, striking, ten-metre-high sculpture of fluorescent coloured rocks by international artist, Ugo Rondinone - his first public artwork in the UK located right here on Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage waterfront.
