Yard & Coop; Restaurant Review

New Fried Chicken Restaurant In Liverpool City Centre.

Yard & Coop have burst onto the scene, opening a swanky new restaurant in Liverpool specialising in buttermilk fried chicken, on Hanover Street – and it’s 100% delicious.

As we descended the steps from street level down into this basement venue we were offered a tour of the place by one of the staff. It’s not something you get offered when entering a restaurant usually but the team are proud of what they have going on at Yard & Coop. As we were shown around it was pointed out that every bit of the restaurant had been well thought out with a specially commisoned table for large parties, to all the artwork coming from local artists, which includes the artwork covering the walls.

Now there’s various seating options at Yard & Coop, however if you are like us then you will want to sit in a coop! That’s right there’s booth style seating which has been designed in the style of a chicken coop.

But don’t think that Yard & Coop is gimmicky, the food more than proves that they are a serious contender in the fried chicken game.

Chorizo Thins

The drinks menu is packed with boozy cocktails, milkshakes and a good selection of soft drinks too. A large gin and tonic did just the job for us. Served in a large gin glass with juniper berries just as it should be.

Fill It Burger

We ordered a Fill It Burger, Vegas Fries and a side of Chorizo Thins, which was slices of chorizo in tempura batter. The Fill It Burger came out looking impressive, to me the addition of the American style huge pickle on top is perfection! It tasted just as good as it looked, crispy, juicy chicken complimented by the salad and pickle. The accompanying chips were crispy and plentiful. The Vegas Fries – peanut butter and jam loaded fries with chopped buttermilk fried chicken thigh, Montery Jack cheese and bacon – was absolutely packed full of flavour. If you are a fan of peanut butter it really does come through in this dish. The Chorizo Thins were a nice addition and if you’ve got a big appetite then a side dish is a great idea.

The Bill – Served in an egg carton, with mini eggs.

One added extra we enjoyed was receiving the bill in an egg carton with mini eggs inside! Yard & Coop have got it right with all the small details and their Buttermilk Fried chicken approach is sure to be a popular one.
