Red Bull’s Viral ‘Up The Mast’ Challenge Is Coming To Liverpool This May
A high-energy, slightly chaotic, and very slippery competition is heading to the waterfront as Red Bull brings its Up The Mast challenge to Liverpool this spring.
Set to take over Salthouse Dock on Monday 25 May 2026 (bank holiday weekend), the event will see 200 participants attempt to sprint along a greased mast suspended over the water — all in pursuit of a single flag and local glory.
What is Red Bull Up The Mast?
The concept is simple, but far from easy. Competitors must race along a slippery pole jutting out over the dock and grab the flag at the end. Succeed, and you progress. Miss it, and you’re out. The fastest finisher in the final round will be crowned the Red Bull Up The Mast Liverpool Champion.
Expect plenty of dramatic wipeouts along the way.
Who can take part?
The event is open to anyone aged 18 and over, with students from Liverpool universities and members of the local community encouraged to sign up and give it a go.
Not feeling brave enough to take part? Spectating is completely free, and there’ll be live music and entertainment running throughout the afternoon.
How to get involved
Those wanting to take on the mast can register online via Red Bull’s website, with more events expected to roll out across the UK over the summer.
For everyone else, it’s shaping up to be a lively addition to Liverpool’s bank holiday calendar — and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser along the waterfront.
