Naomi Campbell’s New Single Is A Shimmering Tribute To 70s Country-Soul

Comfort of the Breeze is the latest single from Liverpool-based Irish singer-songwriter Naomi Campbell, following April’s release of track The Cottage.

Since her solo debut in March 2024 – alongside her work as part of Americana trio Motel Sundown – Campbell has since gone on to build a name for herself in the scene, supporting touring UK, Ireland and US artists and playing her first UK / Ireland tour. She has received significant support from regional and national radio, including BBC Merseyside and Radio X. Described as “one to watch” by Americana UK, Campbell taps into both the Americana scene and Liverpool’s love for country music.

Campbell’s sound has notably evolved over recent years, from her Irish roots in Folk and Americana to a wider soul and R&B sound. Comfort of the Breeze feels like a natural progression of her artistry, with a 70’s country-soul inspired flavour, and references of the likes of Elton John, Emmylou Harris and Bobbie Gentry.

Released on 21 August, the track expertly spotlights Naomi’s evocative and rich vocal tone, which has drawn comparisons to the late Karen Carpenter. Tasteful instrumentation provides the structure for the storytelling to really shine. The lyrics, as Naomi explains, explore “the changing emotions we face when getting older, as our relationships with loved ones change in different ways”.

Warm, soothing harmonies are layered with soulful piano and twanging steel pedal guitar. Pressing play sounds like the auditory equivalent of sunlight shining on the back of your neck. Comfort of the Breeze could just as easily soundtrack the sunset on an open highway in the American south as it does the rainy cobbles lining the Liverpool Docks.

After wrapping up her debut headline tour in June, Campbell shows no sign of slowing the momentum. With her debut EP on the way this Autumn and upcoming tour dates across the UK in September and November, we’ll be tuned in to see what’s coming next from this rising talent!

Naomi Campbell’s Comfort of the Breeze is out now and available to stream on all major platforms.
