Future Yard Festival Announce Series of 2020 Events

The team behind Future Yard Festival has announced Near Future, a pop-up music venue and Birkenhead’s only dedicated live music space.

Initially Near Future will be showcasing a series of live events between 25th April – 20th June 2020. It will present some of the most exciting emerging new artists from across the UK – and very special returning local icons.

The success of the first Future Yard Festival last year proved that there is an audience for new music in Birkenhead. Near Future will give Future Yard the opportunity to present the best new artists all year round, not for just one weekend a year.

The opening party features two of Wirral’s most exciting electronic artists, Evian Christ and Forest Swords. DJ Tom Ravenscroft will also be performing, providing a flavour of his genre-hopping, otherworldly music taste.

A very special and already sold out show from Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark will see Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys perform their first Wirral show since 1979.

The electronic pioneers – who were labelled “Wirral’s Kraftwerk” by The Guardian in a review of their York Barbican show as part of their 40th anniversary tour – will take the opportunity to revisit the material they performed at their last show on the peninsula; at West Kirby Youth Club in August 1979.

On 24 May, there’s an all-dayer curated by Wirral’s finest She Drew The Gun. Hand-picked by Louisa Roach to feature an incredible line-up of friends and outstanding musicians who all share She Drew The Gun’s belief that music needs to say something as well as sound great.

Chester’s indie-punk trio Peaness, eclectic Warrington four-piece Man & The Echo and freak-folk three-piece Mamatung also join the party, for an event that runs from 3pm ‘til late. Philly Moore brings his dreamy torch songs, quartet Piss Kitti bring their agit-pop and Abby Meysenburg brings a captivating lyricism to a show that is stacked with talent.

Building Stories is a night of live music and spoken word, tied together by the art of storytelling taking place on 29 May. Presented by dream-hop songwriter Bye Louis, Building Stories s an event that reflects the emerging and unorthodox talents of a group of contrasting performers. All the acts performing are amazing and unique storytellers; Bye Louis, Astles, ROY, Sara Wolff and Hibword.

The all-day closing party serves as the final statement in the initial run of Near Future shows in the pop-up venue. Five-piece troupe Warmduscher are a band of miscreants, formed from the sleazy rock collision of members of Fat White Family, Paranoid London and Childhood. Self Esteem is new-yet-not-new project of Rebecca Taylor, a songwriter, vocalist and pop alchemist of the highest order.
