Blockbuster Store Airbnb Open For Guests’ Retro Movie Sleepover

Film fans will love this Blockbuster Store Airbnb.

Airbnb is known for it’s amazing range of properties to rent, from modest apartments, to grand mansions and then the weird and whacky guesthouses in between! So this one of a kind rental in Bend, Oregon, USA has quite rightly got people talking.

The world’s last Blockbuster store is offering a one-time overnight experience at the video rental shop, with three individual one-night stays on 18, 19 and 20 September. What’s even more impressive is that it costs just $4 for the night.

Unfortunately for us, the Blockbuster Store Airbnb experience is only open to residents of Deschutes County, Oregon. However, they have a cool Bend Blockbuster web store where you can get your hands on some epic merchandise.

Store manager Sandi Harding explained that the Blockbuster Store Airbnb concept is a ‘thank you’ to residents of Deschutes County, Oregon for keeping the last Blockbuster store in the world open for so many years! They are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a Blockbuster store and as the Coronavirus pandemic has quashed their plans for throwing a party, this seems like a pretty cool alternative celebration.

The shop will be embracing the ’90s for the Airbnb experience as it has set up a living room area with retro decor, a huge tv screen and ofcourse a VHS player so that guests can watch any of the tapes that are available in the store.

The experience will be Covid compliant with only four people from the same social bubble allowed to book the retro accomodation, as well as masks and hand sanitizer provided. Plus there will be a deep clean before the next lucky guests are booked in.

At its peak in 2004 Blockbuster had over 9,000 stores worldwide, before having to call in the administrators in 2013 for its UK stores.

If you want to experience some movie nostalgia right here in Liverpool then be sure to check out the amazing VideOdyssey, dubbed by BBC Radio 4 as the UK’s last video shop and soon to be Liverpool’s smallest private cinema.
