Through the Roof: Exploring a Forgotten Liverpool Building
An empty building with its roof missing is a striking sight. Standing just outside Liverpool city centre, this neglected property is a reminder of how quickly once-useful spaces can fall into disrepair. While its future remains uncertain, the building now offers a fascinating glimpse into the beauty and intrigue that can emerge from urban decay.
Sometimes, when a building is so severely damaged, it is cheaper to knock everything down and start again, build something different. Nevertheless, until the demolition team arrives, empty buildings in a crisis are perfect for exploring.
All urban explorers will tell you it is imperative to be mindful of the environment you are about to step into. And because of this, an imaginary antenna in my mind reached sky-high. Yes, I was on full alert while exploring to help detect and avoid stepping on anything hazardous like nails, glass, or any other sharp objects, because there were lots scattered around.

It was obvious the property has been neglected for more than just an extended period of time. Still, entering unpleasant surroundings suddenly became an ideal opportunity to take interesting photos far from ordinary; in fact, the photos I took are quite uncanny.
It was great to see how different sections of the building can unexpectedly look like something entirely different, creating new meanings.
For example, of course, what I stepped into was not a place of worship, just an empty building. But the way the somewhat rusty hooks were positioned on a wall unintentionally looks like a crucifix that has seen better days in a dystopian society.
Even though many may assume the building looks totally uninhabitable, there are a few clues to indicate otherwise. For example, the various black scribbles and the large scratches on the wall are key signs that suggest people have been loitering inside.

Due to the lack of an actual roof in sight, but a metal roof frame, this has created a visual effect in certain parts of the building: different line shadows on the ground and the walls. This type of creative effect allowed me to be surrounded by unexpected patterns, which subsequently created a dreamlike existence.
I noticed a “for sale” sign on the property. However, whoever buys it would also have to take on the financial burden of buying a new roof, new flooring, and more. Furthermore, while looking upwards, I noticed not only the sky but also a rusty roof frame attached to the building, which, of course, creates a health and safety risk.

It seems a new roof frame will need to be added to the already long list of new things to buy. Therefore, achieving a quick sale may prove challenging.
So in the meantime, it looks like the building will continue to function as an attraction well-suited for all urban explorers for some time to come.
